Jonathan D. Mitchell

Dr. Jonathan D. Mitchell has research interests in the biology and ecology of elasmobranchs and teleosts, fisheries management and how research can be applied to understand and mitigate negative interactions between sharks and humans, including shark bites and shark depredation in fisheries. The key research theme of recent work conducted by Dr. Mitchell focuses on understanding depredation of catch by sharks, which is a topical issue impacting fishers and sharks across Australia. Dr. Mitchell has also been involved with other research projects investigating shark biology and ecology in the Bahamas and fisheries monitoring projects in the Arabian Gulf and the Mediterranean. Currently based at the Queensland Government Department of Agriculture and Fisheries in Brisbane, Queensland, Dr. Mitchell previously undertook his PhD at the University of Western Australia and undergraduate and Masters degrees at the University of Southampton in the UK.
